Approximately 160 students, faculty, and alumnae gathered at the Saint Mary’s University Event Center for a day of sharing and critique, exploration of topics, and learning about the fine work going on in our three doctoral programs. Presenters included faculty, students, and alumnae from the PsyD, DBA, and EdD programs. A continental breakfast and poster session were followed by opening remarks, including the reading of a letter from Senator Amy Klobuchar, who recognized the importance of the programs’ current efforts and encouraged all to push forward. Topics presented in breakout sessions included: Recording the lived experiences regarding support systems of first-generation college student single parents, Analysis of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Inflows Into The Central African Economic And Monetary Community (CEMAC) From 2012-2017, and Core Subject Teachers’ Experiences of Partnering with Industry Professionals to Integrate Career Readiness.
During lunch an alumni panel (with representatives from all three doctoral programs) spoke about their journeys, the challenges and rewards of both the process, and how their achievement of their doctorates changed their professional lives within their field. The panelists also held lively table discussion sessions with current students. Faculty members Dr. Ayala and Dr. Schultz conducted sessions about Getting Published and Presenting at Conferences. There was an EdD comprehensive examination workshop; representatives were present from admissions; and the library was on hand with informational materials. Two PsyD students had dissertation presentations, Jesse Moonen presented on Mental Health Providers’ Work with Transgender Clients in the Current Political Climate and Nicole Gravelle presented on Trainees’ experiences in supervision related to suicide response preparedness. The day also included a dissertation defense by EdD student Scott Tabor sharing his work on Social Media Governance in a Health Care Organization.
