Sarah Haugen and Tracy Lysne from the M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning program at Saint Mary’s University had the pleasure of facilitating a session with a small, but mighty group at this year’s Minnesota Educator Academy. Their session entitled Equipping Educators for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) was designed to help educators experience approaches in efforts to uncover and encourage individuals to intentionally recognize, cultivate, and leverage their own strengths, talents, and passions and to appreciate the strengths and talents of others. They encouraged those attending to “ROCK” the SEL competencies of self-awareness and social awareness by RECOGNIZING and REFLECTING on strengths and talents,  OWNING and being OPEN to what they and others might have to offer, leading with CURIOSITY, and KAIZEN changing for good. It was an active session filled with reflection and great dialogue.
