Teresa Taylor (Director of Culturally Responsive Teaching) and Alisa Macksey (Executive Director, First Generation Initiative) attended a panel discussion in Minneapolis on October 17 on the topic of racial strife in our country. The discussion focused on the premise, if it can happen at the University of Virginia, it can happen anywhere. Presenters included: Wes Bellamy, Vice-Mayor of Charlottesville, VA, John Unsworth, University of Virginia, Juan Wade, City of Charlottesville School Board, Reverend Brenda Brown-Grooms, New Beginnings Christian Community (VA); moderated by Dr. Articka Tyner (UST). Teresa and Alisa participated in roundtable frank discussions about the needs of institutions coming together for the purpose of Unity in Diversity, and being responsive to preventing sieges of hatred through education.
